Route description Bonita Springs and Fort Myers Beach SR 865 connects to Estero Island via the Matanzas Pass Bridge. The historic southern terminus of SR 865 is an interchange between Interstate 75 (I-75 or SR 93) and Bonita Beach Road in Bonita Springs, though the current county designation actually begins 2.2 miles (3.54 km) east of the interchange near Logan Boulevard.
The line reached Bonita Springs by late 1925 where a depot was built just south of the Imperial River (the depot has since been demolished but the depot's platform and siding still remain near Riverside Park). The line was further extended to Naples by December 1926, and to Collier City on Marco Island in mid 1927.
The hurricane produced 8 to 10 in (200 to 250 mm) of rain in some parts of the county, causing the Imperial River to overflow at Bonita Springs. Water flooded several streets and entered a number of homes, especially east of Interstate 75. Slow drainage in some areas left residents unable to return to their homes for more than two weeks.
