On Lichess.org, the chess computers are run on the stockfish engine and I do pretty well against level 4-5 (1700 elo or so). It's a completely different story when I try to play on gameknot though. I always choose the intermediate option (1600, or so it claims) which is as far as you can go without a membership and it just completely destroys ...
I used to play there, but I feel the page is too cluttered and not up to the par. And it makes me feel worse that theyre asking money for it pretty agressively. Almost any site performs as well in correspondence chess and then some. But I like that they dont allow computer aids there, although its hard to prove
Don't know about it, but I have very fond memories of this site. When I first started playing, gameknot.com was where I used to play. I used to take my games very seriously and use the hell out off the analysois board In complicated positions. I think most of my chess abilities came out of the couple of years I played correspondance at that site.
No chess player in the world can beat the most powerful computer engine in a match of reasonable length today. A GM might just be able to win a game by completely closing up the position and 'tricking' the computer to make a bad move, but would get slaughtered in any open/tactical position.
I don't have any concrete resources but computer assisted humans can in fact beat computers. One prove for that is the survival of Correspondence Chess, where people these days play with an engine but still try to pick some variations that according to their understanding make more sense in certain positions and then of course engine check those moves as well to come to a definite conclusion.
I've been a member of chess.com for over a year now, but I remembered a site I played on back in ~2001-2002, gameknot.com. I registered a new account and I have to say that I like the interface there quite a lot. They don't have as many features as chess.com (no forums, no videos), but I like the tournaments. Anyone else play there?
And you should refrain from using a computer as much as possible. It follows that you won't gain much insight by analyzing blitz games and should focus on games played under longer time control. Analyzing your own (classical) games, by yourself, is actually probably the most time efficient way to improve your play.
I am curious about other people's experiences regarding how well they play versus the computer and how well they play versus humans. I dropped 300 points versus people yesterday from 1200 to 900, but I can comfortably play versus the computer set to 1500.
I play mostly on chess.com. I can beat their computers with rating to 1500 pretty consistently. I just beat a 2100 computer the other day. However, I cannot beat humans over 1000 with any consistency. I play day games and 10 minute games, my rating is around 950 for each. My puzzle rating is around 1700.
- Playing computer too much can make your confidence low. The computer expertly targets your weakness. Playing it many times u might think that many moves are all of a sudden weakness when they are not. - Playing the computer some creative human moves will be simply punished because of a tactical reason. I been playing the engine for about 4-5 ...
