The browser connects to the IP address as the domain name is only the pointer to the IP address so using the IP removes the DNS resolution from the step to get to the webpage and if the domain name changes, the site can still be accessed if it is still at the same location (IP address). I tried about 20 sites and couldn't get to one by using ...
Only use a DNS 2 for domain Workstations if it is synchronized with the domain. For non-domain joined computers, use the Domain DNS as #1, and a non-domain DNS as #2. With this setup DNS may initially be slow, speed will increase quickly. It's also the easiest to maintain.
Godaddy likes to close accounts that have been dormant for a few years. I have multiple accounts. The discount code I posted actually can be applied for multi year subscription but appears to be logarithmic with each succeeding year. I signed up for two years for ~$11. It's $0.99 for one year.

If your setup allows for renaming of a machine that is on the domain (the domain controller isn't setup to require the computer to be pre-added in AD), and you no longer need the original system name in AD, then it should be fine to change the name. 9905 was joined to our domain, lets say prod.corp.pvt I cloned without a problem, obviously the clones fire up as the orignal VM name (Ive had all the networking disconnected as to not disturb the exisitng AD account for 9905 and am working with the root account) net ads leave give me "bash: net: command not found"
With a domain controller network neighborhood still works without wins, it gets the list from the domain controller. What is fun is when you have 4 domains and need to get dns functioning properly to access all 4 domains from one computer by name.
Why should I use domain names if I only need ip? It's not my purpose to setup a new DYNDNS service my purpose is that I can update the dynamic ip in our adminpanel. The ip I get with a simple script that gets the external ip from where the request comes.
