I would prefer to push around 150 db if possible. So you could probably do a pair of 12"s, with the port off to one side. the difference between 130 and 150 is ridiculous! x2 on that. You'd have to do quite a bit of work to get around 150. 140 could be attainable if you burped it, but probably not on music with 1000 dollar budget.

USA. May 17, 2004. #5. It will not theoretically gain 3dbs, nor is 3dbs 3 times as loud (under any of the various definitions of 'twice as loud' etc). Doubling the amplifier power, or doubling the cone area will theoretically gain you 3db's, which is noticeable to the human ear. To answer your question, it will be louder, noticeably.

If you don´t know, 155 so incredibly loud that permanent irreversible hearing damage will occur after roughly 30 seconds of sound that loud. Possibly less time than that. Noted that no normal user will hit that loud, the average recorded SPL levels are in the upper 130 to lower 140 range with around 400-600 watts RMS per sub.

ok well 140 is all said and good, but you dont even know what your at now. i would suggest getting metered so you can see how much work you got ahead of you first. so point in just upping or lowering enclosure volume if you need to gain 7db's to reach 140. know what i mean?

9,091. 0. Maine. Dec 19, 2008. #5. i used to compete with h2 12.2's with two 1200d's strapped to each @ 1 ohm. I suggest running 1000-1500w for daily driving, if you can find an Orion 1200d its literally a marriage made in heaven. I've hooked many buddies up with H2 10.2 or 12.2 and 1200d combos and its really loud and sounds good and they are ...

  11. how loud is your sub compared to your mids/highs?

    www.caraudio.com/threads/how-loud-is-your-sub-compared-to-your-mids-highs.612009

This is intentional. for most music, i like about 5 dbs (or so) more bass than my mids/highs. JLs target curve is like 10-12dbs louder, starting to get louder around 200hz and below. i feel thats too loud for rap/electronic. Typically people like EQ curves that look like a smile with low and high frequency boosted.
