All adults) and was wondering if the Walmart brand Special Kitty is equal or worse than Friskies canned food. Thing is the Special Kitty can be bought for $1 22oz vs $1 13oz for Friskies.
If you feed friskies as a 'junk food' then, you might as well replace it with the urinary health kind; two birds with one stone so to speak. The thing that worries me however is that it contains menadione.. It's toxic to the liver and has been banned from human consumption. May 31, 2011. #6.
17. Cats in the wild eat mice, birds, rabbits, etc. Wild prey is composed of 70-80% moisture. Dry kibble, any brand, ranges between 7-8% moisture. A cat who is fed exclusively dry kibble will be chronically dehydrated. They cannot drink enough to rehydrate themselves.
Not sure where you have heard that, from what I know Friskies is usually the cause of UTI, as it is poor quality food with by-products, and most importantly added salt. Wet food is better than dry always, so if you must go with Friskies go with wet, but I would advise against choosing this brand. Pick wet food with little to no grain, no added ...
In fact, Purina One Kitten Formula has a much higher protein content than other kibble. As for the wet stuff, the bottom line is that high quality wet food costs more. That being said, Friskies wet is part of my cat's rotating menu, but I closely read the labels and I am quite picky about the flavors I buy for her.
Kitten. Sometimes, it can be the preservatives in the food causing diarrhea. Some cats are very sensitive to certain preservatives and only a tiny amount will upset their stomach. Almost all of the Friskies flavours have fish in them, including the poultry ones, so you will still have an issue if fish is the problem.
Fancy Feast classic (only classic) is somehwat better than Friskies. Not all Purina products are equal, as you can probaby tell/smell. If you buy Friskies, get the pate; it has less gravy so less carbohydrates. Avoid fish flavored food; the smell can become addictive and because of the fish used, can lead to UTIs.

Purraise. 1. Location. Little Falls, MN. I have been feeding my two cats Friskies dry and canned as well as Fancy Feast for the last 8 years with no problem. Soon after I started feeding my male cat, Pumpkin, the new Friskies dry he began vomiting several times a day. He is a healthy cat and before he rarely vomited and only because of hair balls.
Friskies wet is actually one of my regular rotation canned foods because it's well accepted by the cats, readily available, and quite affordable. Friskies and Fancy Feast are two wet food brands that are actually relatively good and budget-friendly and quite a few other members feed it to their cats too.
