5g mean 5th generation. this can be 5th generation of the cellular network. currently the most normal cellular network is umts which is the 3th generation. and LTE which some call the 4th generation. not sure what att sold you that they call 5g but sounds like a mistake or somebody being cheated

5G uses different frequencies. 5G Low Band provides wider coverage, but at slower speeds. Higher frequencies provide faster signal speed, but not as much coverage. In other words, everything is a trade off.

Note: you will have to re-enter Wi-Fi passwords for all previously connected networks once iPhone restarts. This should resolve your issue.

The E indicates that you're iPhone is connected to the Edge or 2G network. That will change depending on the type of cellular data or Wi-Fi connection your iPhone is connected to.

5Ge is AT&T's marketing term for 'faster LTE, but not really 5G'. When you see "5G", you're connected to a tower with 5G service. When you see "5GE", you're on LTE. As an interesting side note. AT&T got their hands slapped for this. They stopped using 5GE in their advertising, but it still shows up on the phone.
