Formerly known as Salinas, Rosario has an area of 5.6 square kilometers (2.2 sq mi), making it the most densely populated city/municipality in Cavite at 16,473 per km 2. With the continuous expansion of Metro Manila, the municipality is now included in Manila conurbation which reaches Lipa, Batangas in its southernmost part.

The town of Rosario was founded by Augustinian friars in 1687 that originated from the southeastern coast of Batangas which is Lobo. When the municipality (Rosario) was founded, Lobo became a barrio of Rosario with the present municipalities of Taysan, San Juan, and Padre Garcia.
Padre Garcia, officially the Municipality of Padre Garcia (Tagalog: Bayan ng Padre Garcia), is a 2nd class municipality in the province of Batangas, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 51,853 people. [4] Padre Garcia's old name is Lumang Bayan, as it is the former seat of government of the neighboring town of Rosario.
Rosario was formerly a part of Santo Tomas and became a municipality in 1869 by a decree. Natives of Rosario emanated from Santo Tomas and Magsingal (), and also from Agoo, Tubao, Aringay, San Fernando and Bacnotan, thus by the end of the 19th century, Rosario became home to mostly Ilocanos, Ilocanized Pangasinenses, & Pangasinenses still speaking their native language.
Ibaan is located at 13°49′03″N121°07′59″E / 13.8176°N 121.133°E. It is 13 kilometres (8.1 mi) from Batangas City and 118 kilometres (73 mi) from Manila. It is bounded on the northwest by San Jose, the northeast by Lipa City, the east by Rosario, the southeast by Taysan, and the southwest by Batangas City.
The city has been known by at least two Tagalog names, the first being Tangway, which was the name given to the area by Tagalog settlers. Tangway simply means "peninsula". The second is Kawit or "hook", referring to the hook-shaped landform along the coast of Bacoor Bay, [6] and from which the Chinese Keit and Spanish Cavite are in turn derived.
