Viet Thanh Nguyen (Vietnamese: Nguyễn Thanh Việt; born March 13, 1971 [a]) is a Vietnamese-American professor and novelist. He is the Aerol Arnold Chair of English and Professor of English and American Studies and Ethnicity at the University of Southern California.
From 1995 to 2005, Nguyễn was the deputy director of the Institute of Linguistics in Hanoi. He became Professor in 1996. He worked at the Institute of Dictionaries and Encyclopedias of Vietnam from 2008 to 2012. [4] Nguyễn died on December 20, 2020, in Hanoi, Vietnam shortly after presenting at a linguistics conference.
