World map. A world map is a map of most or all of the surface of Earth. World maps, because of their scale, must deal with the problem of projection. Maps rendered in two dimensions by necessity distort the display of the three-dimensional surface of the Earth. While this is true of any map, these distortions reach extremes in a world map.
The globe shows an enlarged Eurasian continent and an empty ocean between Europe and Asia. The mythical Saint Brendan's Island is included. Cipangu ( Japanese archipelago ) is oversized and well south of its true position; Martellus 's map is followed in developing an enormous phantom peninsula east of the Golden Chersonese ( Malay Peninsula ).

[ 1] Garmin purchased the company and the building in 2016. [ 2] The globe weighs approximately 5,600 pounds (2,500 kg), and has a diameter of over 41 feet (12.5 m).
