1987 – 1989. Michael David Edwards (born 5 December 1963), [ 1] better known as Eddie the Eagle, is an English ski jumper and Olympian who in 1988 became the first competitor to represent Great Britain in Olympic ski jumping, finishing last in the Normal Hill and Large Hill events. He held the British ski jumping record from 1988 to 2001.
Eddie the Eagle is a 2015 biographical sports comedy-drama film directed by Dexter Fletcher. The film stars Taron Egerton as Michael Edwards, a British skier who in 1988 became the first competitor to represent Great Britain in Olympic ski jumping since 1928. Hugh Jackman, Christopher Walken, Iris Berben and Jim Broadbent co-star.
Career. In 1962, Edwards enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and received his training at Parris Island. [5] After his discharge from the service, he began his career as a model, appearing in TV commercials and magazine layouts. While modeling, he had a dialogue-free cameo in Play It as It Lays (1972) opposite Tuesday Weld.
In 2002, he played David, also known as King Edward VIII, in the feature-length TV drama Bertie and Elizabeth for ITV. [ 5 ] In 2011, he played Michael Palin in Holy Flying Circus , a dramatisation of the controversy surrounding Monty Python's Life of Brian . [ 21 ]
