My PC woke up from sleep on its own. When I signed in, there was a popup from McAfee. I discovered that it had just been installed at the precise time my PC was awakened. I recently purchased a dell laptop (windows 10 )with a free trial of McAfee. I do not wish to use McAfee so I uninstalled the program via add/remove programs. I noted some McAfee files remained on my PC, therefore I also ran MCPR tool. The files are still there. if I search for McAfee on my laptop I am still finding files.
As Shawn has pointed out, if you leave the McAfee software on you are only going to get nag screens asking you to pay for a new subscription. Removing McAfee will prevent the nag screens appearing. Scroll down to McAfee, click the 3 dots on the right hand side and uninstall Restart the computer. To ensure it's completely removed, download the McAfee Consumer Product Removal Tool.
