Therefore it makes sense to buy something with a known reliable engine, to me this means a consumer grade Honda at a minimum, Briggs and Straton are ok for some things, Made in China no names may even have their place, but to me Honda while not perfect is a step above and stands a far better chance to still be running after a 5-7 day major ...

ARC makes a hollow dipper rod with good babbit bearing for racing. This rod in a generator will last until the bore is worn out and the crank will still be good ) rebuilding a clone? Use Predator 363 ( last three digits from the code on the box harbor freight ) piston for all clones with a standard Honda wrist pin on a 70mm bore.

Well I passed on the Predator generators. Wound up with a pair of Westinghouse lgen4500 inverter generators. They have good reviews and looks like they are the same as the new Cummings 4500 watt inverter generator. They come with a few more goodies and $100 cheaper. Put oil in both and 2 gallons of gas in each and ran them for a couple hours.

  5. What makes a "quality" portable generator? - Antique Engines

Onan makes such a wide range of units that your "6.5 kw" could be anything from a portable (quality comparable to the Honda models) to a water cooled diesel set. Onan sets I have used in the past range from 3500w to 100kw and most all have given good service. Kohler makes some good ones too.

Okay folks, here is facts on bound up Predator gen. Handyman says he was able to turn motor backwards, which curred bind. So likely chunk of something binding in crank to cam gears. He said it had also picked up a knock. So my thinking is a piece of rod bearing cap broke off and got up into gears. He will watch drained oil for chunks.

I picked up a 6KW older Briggs(read that made in America, parts and service available at any mower shop) at a local pawn shop for $200 after a little haggling. Even came with a 30 day right of return. Doesn't get any better than that! With all the referrals to Craigs and eBay, you would think...

If it is a copy of a Honda it shouldn't be that hard to get it to last like a Honda. 3000 hours is not that great but it is getting pretty close. So long as they don't throw a rod or do something terrible and last until they gracefully wear out, that is what I would call good quality. 3000...

Re: Predator 8750/7000 generator find/questions One problem with the Predator gens is they don't have hour meters.... making actual previous running time difficult to acertain. My first question would be how is the compression? Next point of interest is ALL the 4kw plus Predator gens use brush fed field excitement.

If you can find same model engine as one on generator you might be able to just swap old tapered end crankshaft into new engine. I've done this several times on a UST 1350 that Walmart sells. Engine turns out to be identical to HF 79cc Predator. The Predator also has a real steel cam, unlike the UST.
