Apr 9, 2020. #6. the most accurate is an ultrasonic fuel tank sender. they are pricey, and generally not needed for any consumer application. however any of the commercially available senders (either swing arm or float) from rockford gauge, wema, Veethree, Cobo, etc. will work just fine.
I'm hauling home a big parts/project boat today from a marine repair shop about 15 miles from my home. Unfortunately that's 15 urban miles, so I'm going to be on Minneapolis highways all the way. I'm avoiding downtown, and circling most of the major metro areas. The boat is 28 feet long with a 10 foot beam, weight about 6000 lbs.

The owner insisted the fuel tank had been emptied and cleaned. I'm unsure when at some point it was refueled, but sure enough after 25 gallons of fresh gas, the tank was full.

Rotate the prop in both directions to insure it is in neutral. If it is, make a third mark while the rod is in this position. This center mark is now your neutral mark. Leave it be and ensure the power/shift lever is in the neutral position at the helm. Next, adjust the cable until in just fits onto its ball.
