Not so fast. J codes are different based on what is preceding them in most cases. 10-51 J1 for the highway patrol means a tow truck company has been contacted and is in route. How do police codes work? I get the whole 10-xx code system, I found lots of references here and online through searches, but what does it mean when an operator says something that is not a 10 code, like 1648 or 1310 or something like that? Is the first two digits a car code or post number...
