In 1929, Academy members, in a joint venture with the University of Southern California, created America's first film school to further the art and science of moving pictures. The school's founding faculty included Fairbanks (President of the Academy), D. W. Griffith, William C. deMille, Ernst Lubitsch, Irving Thalberg, and Darryl F. Zanuck. [26]
The Los Angeles Film School is located on Sunset Boulevard in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Hollywood, where its quarter-million square foot campus (23,000 m 2) includes the historic RCA Building, [6] [22] [25] which is known for being a recording place of artists including Elvis Presley, the Rolling Stones and Henry Mancini. The School of Film and Television was created in 1996 with Robert Bassett as the founding dean. The school occupied a building on main campus named for filmmaker Cecil B. DeMille, in honor of support by CeCe Presley, DeMille's grand daughter. Bassett subsequently led a campaign that ultimately raised $52 million to build and equip a new building.
