I would be happy to just have a link to a Sling TV app within my Tivo Bolt so I could go directly from Tivo to Sling without using a different remote to change inputs in my audio-HDMI switcher box to access my Roku or Amazon Fire Stick. That should be simple. Integrating the Tivo & Sling guides would be more complex.
Two of the main things preventing even more people from doing so is that they want DVR capabilities (and don't realize that Tivo offers that for OTA signals), and that there are a small core group of cable channels they desire (many of which are in the Sling TV $20/mo package--for example, the main cable channels my family would like to have ...
After purchasing/setting up both YouTube TV and Sling accounts while setting up the Stream 4K, I noticed some features were missing plus some weird issues were happening. While I was looking for some answers online, I came across someone in the same boat as me from a Facebook Group comment ( TiVo Stream 4k Community ).
I’ve tried to find an answer but what with all the legacy information still published it’s like walking a maze of dead-ends. I currently use Channels DVR, and while the TV Everywhere function works great the app itself is abysmal. So I went looking and found all this convoluted crap with plugins and m3u etc etc etc that ends up being a tutorial on how to pirate live tv with Plex. All I ...
On FireTV and Android, the did just totally re did the Sling Interface. It is now more like a Tivo or Cable DVR. All new, with a real nice guide. Similar to Youtube TV and the others. Remember Dish Owns Sling, After the lawsuit of many years ago, Dish did contract and buy some of Tivos patents and worked on some coding together for a while.
Sling is a streaming service, that allows you to use AirTV to add (adapter purchase required) OTA and other streaming services. (EXTREMELY simplified) - Plex is a content you already have locally in your house service, that allows you to buy your own (but must be supported by Plex) OTA/Cable tuner to add DVR/LIVE TV capability.
Your Tivo and Sling TV service can't possibly affect each other. So your Tivo connections are irrelevant. Getting a better wifi or hardwired ethernet connection to your streaming device should improve your picture, assuming your internet provider's speed is fast enough for Sling. Probably needs to be at least 5 Mbps for HD.
Each of them has their strengths and weaknesses. Be aware that Sling TV typically does not offer local stations carrying ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, etc. while the other ones I listed do. Also be aware that YouTube TV doesn't presently have a dedicated Roku app, so you have to access that service through a menu listing in the regular YouTube app on Roku.
If you subscribe to Sling, you can get them to send you a free network adapter. The adapter connects to your home TV antenna and your router. You can then watch local channels thru the Sling app on your TV Stream 4k. Even if you later stop paying for sling, you keep the adapter, and the locals will still work in the sling app.
Sling’s new offering seems to open a new window of opportunity. They have an app that will work with AirTV to show local channels along with their OTT channels. SiliconDust’s HDHomeRun makes content available to any app that wants to use it, but Sling would have to implement it (per SiliconDust’s forum). I’ve contacted Sling through their chat and put in my request for the feature. If ...
