A site to download mods from is the Minecraft Forums that is the most reliable site for Mods and if you want Maps then I recommend the Minecraft Forums or Planet Minecraft. And to answer your question about viruses then my say is no, depending on: where you got the mod/map from and if the mod/map is reliable.

Yes that was what I was debating about. Also I'd love to try to add the fire kingdom but so far it's beyond my reach. #1 I'd hope for it to be in the Nether, but that's taken by the Nightosphere. #2 Is just out on land, but I'm going to add the ruins of the mushroom war, and so I'm not too sure how to fit that in.

NOTE: Use a Vanilla server if you're playing any maps in multiplayer. Spigot servers sometimes interpret dimension files incorrectly, so manual adjustment of the nether and end files in the server may be needed. Play in the intended version of minecraft to avoid bugs.
