In 1970, the Qatar Cinema & Film Distribution Company (QCFDC) was founded, inaugurating Gulf Cinema in 1972 as the country's first cinema. Gulf Cinema featured a seating capacity of 1,000 spectators and was even expanded with an extra 400 seats during its peak. It would later be closed in 2013 to make space for the Doha Metro.
