Rutherford B. Hayes An 11-cent postage stamp was issued on the 100th anniversary of Hayes' birth, October 4, 1922, in Washington, D.C., and in Hayes' hometown, Fremont, Ohio, and marked the beginning of the regular issues in 1922. This is the first U.S. postage stamp to honor Hayes. The issue was designed by Clair Aubrey Huston.
Hayes's image was derived from a medal struck by designed by George T. Morgan of the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia. [9] This issue was first released to the public on November 10, 1938, along with the 20-cent Presidential issue of 1938.
