Massey was a natural salesman and by the late 1950s had been promoted to used car manager and then general manager at a Chevrolet dealership in Detroit.

The property was used as a repair shop, to lift cars, paint them, and manufacture and repair metal and wooden parts. The site was sold to Minnie McGee for $231,000 in a sheriff's sale in 2003. Plans to redevelop the site date to at least 2007.
