I was at Harbor Freight last week and noticed this ring roller, which has similar mechanical and functional properties as Tandy's hand-operated embossing machine: As a DIY-type guy, I frequently find items at HF to substitute and/or modify for higher-priced specialty tools. This could be a real gem.
The embossing rolls had a small outside diameter 1-1/4” to 1-1/2”. We weren’t happy with the results and sold it. We eventually found a 100 year old hand powered machine made by F.K. Russell with several old embossing rolls. Machines and embossing rolls were made by Russell, as well as McMillen and C.S. Osborne many years ago.
I find any kind on embossing machine intriguing. I have been playing with all kinds if ideas to make my own embossed items. A couple months back, I got one of those cuddlebug embosser machines, bought at Wallymart. It does a decent job of cutting out my leather shapes for sewing. It's just thinner, supple leather, but it works for me.
Posted October 11, 2020. Hey everyone , Just wanted to see what everybody’s thoughts were on a $200 belt embosser that you could take the embossing rolls that anybody makes and put on this machine . It’s very very simple to use and all steel construction with heavy duty bearings and adjustable height for different thicknesses of leather.
Here's a picture of the biggest one. Many thanks. The dies are probably made for a Randall embosser (1-5/8" bore). The Randall dies are larger for longer repeats and can emboss deeper the hand crank machines. If its a 1" bore, it might be an old Russle or McMillan embosser die, but 3" OD sounds like a Randall.
