I downloaded the 0.2 version and placed it in my games folder, I then switched to the MineClone tab in the game and made a new world using that subgame. However, when I click play the game starts, but nothing appears in the world. Then if I try to close the game window it fails to close, so I have to kill the program through my system monitor.

These changes to MineClone5 mcl_maps break every single map in every MineClone5 installation. It would have been very little work to not do that – e.g. either doing nothing or automatic format conversion. . Your disregard for map art shows a lack of respect for users works – who have been making maps for a long time.
Instructions: Install in mods folder. Activate the mod-pack in your world. Select map V7 to experience the biomes. Enjoy. Portal Tips: If portal takes you to an odd place or your are entrapped, just go back to overworld and build another portal and try again. To light the portal: Obsidian -->Flint and steel.
Mineclonia is a fork of MineClone 2 with focus on stability, multiplayer performance and features. The goal of the project is to create a free clone of Minecraft. The game is available for download on ContentDB. More information can be found in the README. The game is currently in beta. It is fully playable, but some breakages/changes are expected.

Open Minetest up and go to the Content tab. Click "Browse online content". Look for Mineclone 2, it's currently the first package. Click the + button to install. If you don't have a Content tab or you don't see Mineclone 2, then update your Minetest version as it is outdated.
