Yahoo! GeoCities was a popular web hosting service founded in 1995 and was one of the first services to offer web pages to the public. In 1998, it was the third-most-browsed website. Yahoo acquired GeoCities in 1999 and shut it down in 2009, deleting 7 million web pages.
